I hope UA is serious about this route, rather than just a poke in AA's eye. They have stopped and started LAX-HKG a few times due to low demand. Maybe they can make it work out with the new C, feed from CO and the relative lack of "better" competition (read AA & MU are not CX). Personally, I hope so because this has the potential of eliminating one or perhaps even two overnights for me on trips to China.
