Question Stay and Points Credit for a Rate Lowered by the Guarantee

This question was asked about 5 months ago but no one has answered it yet and I cannot find information on the InterContinental Hotels website:

Can they really get away with having a best rate guarantee but then claim that because the rate was heavily discounted it doesn't qualify for priority club points/stay credit?
I too am wondering if this problem (loss of stay and points credit) crops up very often when one's rate is lowered after a successful Best Rate Guarantee claim.

If they are doing this the logical way I expect the base points earned would be appropriately lowered according to the rate actually paid, but that otherwise one would receive full stay and bonus points credits.
