Just checking any previous experiences out there to see if this would even happen on a good day. I am a Platinum, traveling to Caribbean in 5 days, and used skymiles. Could have upgraded, but also traveling with spouse and decided to not leave myself alone in back (cause she would take the seat!). Anyway, first is wide open to and from ATL, and at 5 days there are only 2 seats gone.

I am going to call Delta and ask for upgrades for both anyway (and at the gate). So, has anyone ever received an upgrade in a similar situation, where you shouldn't be able to do it, but a phone agent or gate agent did it anyway? Any suggestions?
