I could not have put it better! Thanks for your eloquence. I have MMs of miles from all the offers I have taken and used, and I do swap awards and benefits with others, which may be against the rules to some extent, but altering documents to get credit is 1 step across the line.
I may get 1 point to my US account to post from an SPG Plat to get a hit on the USair Promo, but that is allowed by the system. I guess the OP could say that the alteration was "allowed" as well after an inspection by the staff of the airline. Each one has to draw the line.
