So what you're really saying is that it is poor value rather than poor ethics. The question of value comes down to the objective value i.e. what it costs AA vs what they charge you, and perhaps more importantly, the subjective value i.e. what it's worth to you. If the subjective value to you (some assurance that your kid gets safely to his/her destination) is below the price then I guess you can argue it's poor value, but of course you don't have to send you kid on AA.
