It has been my experience that if they have people missing that are supposed to be on the flight then they wait until the last possible minute to close the door.

Different airports close the doors at different times. I hopped on a LGA-ORD flight the other day 5 minutes before departure.

Was the person who originally posted this scheduled to be on that flight or was it a standby situation? Was the flight they were on scheduled in later than it actually made it there? And, as someone else pointed out, was the door to the aircraft open or just the door to the bridge?
