Yes, I agree Auckland is not too bad but one still needs an alternative card. In OZ have found restaurants that charge a supplement for using Amex. In Rarotonga I would say that only 1 in 20 places accept Amex. So it can't be used as the only credit card unless, of course, you want to carry cash for when it's refused!
