FWIW: Check out
this post for a US A-fare that could earn more than enough EQMs on A3 (if it can be routed on UA metal) for *G in one flight, a/i price about twice that CC-annual-fee, plus you get enough miles on A3 to potentially get an intra-europe r/t flight. Anybody know any other good US/UA 'up' fares that book into A?

The cheapest way to get lounge access is to get the UA or CO CC that includes the lounge. At under $400 that's way less than it will cost to accrue 20K in EQMs on A3 and the lounge access benefit is rather comparable.
If you also have a need for the other *G benefits (e.g. luggage) but don't fly enough to get *G otherwise then maybe the incremental cost to get it via a 3rd party is fine, but you're essentially isolating/orphaning those RDMs and probably not getting the best ROI.
