The first row (1) has two problems: lights and smell coming from the galley and a lot of movement/noise due to proximity of lavatory.
This week I flew AZ GRU-FCO-AMS on the last seat (11J) and here is my perspective. The main positive points of row 11: quieter smaller cabin (AZ B772 is divided in two cabins the first with 4 rows, rows 1 to 4, and the second with 3 rows, rows 9 to 11). I experience no limitation in the recline of seat 11J, in fact there is plenty of space on AZ J cabin onboard the B772. The negative point is that you will be the last to be served by crew as they start with row 1.
I decided for 11J instead of 4J (last row of first cabin), because between the first J cabin and the second J cabin there is another galley (which AZ uses through the flight for passenger who want in-between service drinks/snacks) and 2 lavatories and therefore light coming from this galley could be bothersome and there is always noise from the lavatories due to opening/closing of doors, etc.
On my leg AMS-GRU-FCO I selected seat 3J and in my opinion 11J was better and row 11 will be my selection for future AZ B772 flights on J.
