Are you sure there are no award seats for the earlier flight? Did you call AA and ask?
Thanks for replying! In my case, it was a paid ticket rather than award one. I'll be arriving ORD from LHR around 7:30pm. There is a flight leaving ORD at 9:30pm to my final destination, but costs $200+ more than another one leaving at 7:30am next day.
