FWIW, I've been booking stays at Marriott's around the country for the last few years for family. They have never been questioned when checking-in, and have always had enjoyable stays.. Obviously YMMV, but I think most hotels will figure quest 1 is the wife of account holder 1, and give them a keycard without any questions..
