Just received my Air NZ Amex Platinum card yesterday and have to agree with previous posts - pathetic limit - even less than my previous TSB Amex Gold card. However have joined for the following reasons:
- 1 x free domestic return flight (value say $150)
- 200 bonus Airpoints (value $200)
- No Koru joining fee (value $255)
- One year Koru membership discount ($145)
So for the $395 I get a value of $800 in year one. This is of course only worth it if - like me - you currently don't have Koru membership and want to join.
Re: Rewards rate. With this card, for every $100 spent I will earn $1.33 (in Airpoints dollars). With my ASB MC Gold, for every $100 spent I earn $0.77. So it's a much better earn rate.
The Status Points offering isn't much chop though. Earn 1 Status point for every $250 spent.
I rang Amex this morning (Melbourne call centre) and they said Amex hope to have PIN functionality for the cards early next year for AU & NZ (welcome to the 21st century Amex.)
Won't be getting rid of my Gold MC anytime soon. I see Amex as a secondary card until they get their PIN functionality sorted.
