On a recent LHR-HKG return with Mrs matho in a 747, we managed to bag 1A/K on both sectors. I did an in-flight assessment of the rest of the cabin and came to the conclusion that I would always go for these seats if available. They do have an element of privacy, are close enough to chat and even lean over for a goodnight kiss! The wardrobe is really only used at the start and end of the flight when people are donning/removing their Pjs.

Anything on the left-hand aisle is subject to lots traffic due to the toilets, so if 1A/K weren't available, I'd probably opt for 2K/3K. If travelling alone I'd go for 2K for privacy over sharing row 1 with someone else.

I'm Silver, but I was able to select 1A/K on the outbound at T-72. On the return, I had seen that 1A was already taken and 1K was free, but I asked at check-in if 1A/K were available and the passenger in 1A was duly bumped to make room for us!
