ORD-HEL is great, but I'd rather not fly backwards to ORD to get to the scandinavia OW hub.
Finland is undoubtedly Nordic, but it is less so Scandinavian. Except for the legacy of being a foreign possession of the Swedish crown, not a whole lot more that is "Scandinavian" about Finland, even as Finnair does rely heavily upon the traffic to/from the Scandinavian population centers -- especially ARN, CPH, GOT, OSL etc. in SE/DK/NO -- to make a go of its current business. For most traffic between the Americas and Scandinavian population centers, flying to HEL also involves flying "backwards" to get to the actual Scandinavian destinations most in demand.
If the ORD-HEL/HEL-ORD service results in enough demand to stimulate Asia/Europe-HEL demand, this could indirectly end up eventually resulting in what you want: additional JFK-HEL service. But this depends primarily upon what AY does with servicing Europe/Asia.
