In the UK we're in the enviable position of being able to buy unlocked iPhones direct from Apple. I just brought 3 over to the US with me for friends who don't want to pay $140 a month to AT&T
Nice that you can easily spend £1500 on your good buds.
And by the by you're going to be paying for data to someone and over the long haul you'll be paying pretty pence for data to whomever you choose unless you choose to get no data at all and only use WiFi.
