I think what people are arguing is that if they had food at reasonable prices (close to cost) they may not get a direct return on the food but rather a greater return on the people buying memberships to get to the food. The food doesn't necessarily need to sink or swim on its own.
Exactly. The food is there to attract people to Delta's product. The way it's priced right now, it won't attract anyone (heck, I was already
in the club and it didn't attract me; it's definitely not going to make anyone pay extra to get in)--which means it's going to be a giant flop.
On the other hand, I have strongly been considering a BR membership because of the pancake and soup offerings.
Now, the Concorde Room or the QF lounge in SYD with free waiter-served food...THOSE I would buy memberships for without hesitation! (Unfortunately, you
can't buy memberships to most premium international lounges...)
