I don't think anybody suggested an iphone purchase in mainland China, and I'm sure none of that applies to purchases in HKG, otherwise we would have heard about that some time ago since they've been selling iphones in HKG for years now.

Iphones in sold in HK don't have the same restrictions as the Chinese Iphones. I guess another reason (apart from cost), why a lot of people from the PRC are coming to HKG to buy their iphones.
