That does beg the question of why tips are tied to the bill. Does a waitress carrying five $5 plates really deserve less than one carrying one $50 plate?

When receiving a discount we tip based on the pre-discounted price. In the SC, as someone noted here, $1 per drink. It was much more on one occasion when, as I had my arm in a sling, the bartender provided table service.
