The iPhone 4's in China are crippled by the Chinese government in at least two different ways.

First, the Map app is forced to use a Chinese government approved map data set. Two problems with that, the international borders of China that are shown are not those that are internationally recognized and two, the street names are only in Chinese no matter what country you are in. Normally you would see French/English street names if you were in France. On the Chinese released iPhone 4 you would only see the Paris street names in Chinese. This is NOT a user adjustable item on the Chinese released phone.

Second, the Google search function in Safari will take you to Google.cn. Sounds normal, except Google.cn normally will redirect you to Google.hk, and that step must be accepted manually each time you do a search in Safari on the Chinese iPhone 4.

Those are just the first two things imposed on the iPhone 4 by the Chinese government. What else is there, no one knows at this point. But why take a chance on a Chinese government back door to all your data. Buy it somewhere else.
