Friends of mine who recently travelled in First, and who are very well behaved gentlemen, were treated like royalty - both onboard and in the lounges.
Customer service is a torment for those who have to do it - people can be surprisingly nasty - the pay is crap and burn out is frequent, so I'd say take a deep breath and give a little grace to every "service" worker you encounter on your way through the airport. They may never manage to fly First with BA, but they are human beings just making their way.
