I think it depends how its booked. FWIW I got points and stay credit at a Hilton last december from an airline forced overnight. The airline didn't make the booking, instead I showed up at the hotel with a voucher the airline gave me and front desk set up the reservation. Don't know if that makes a difference. Perhaps in some cases.
