I will be flying BOS-LHR-NRT-BOS (excluded intermediate stops for simplicity) next month and want to receive bonus miles for AA's Europe round-trip or Japan round-trip promotions. Will AA give me the bonus for one of these? Could I argue that I am flying a round-trip itinerary to Japan via Europe? Comments please.

No, the system looks for a city-pair in order to give you the bonus. Since your in/out of NRT will be 2 different carriers (LHR-NRT vs. NRT-BOS) and 2 different routes, the script criteria won't be met.
