Forgetting some smaller countries (Monaco and Malta are some of the most obvious ones), I can think of two major European countries that are more densely populated than the UK. The Netherlands and Belgium both come to mind.
Even if we take only England, the Netherlands still pips the UK.
Reminds me of the New Statesman episode where Piers is convinced by Alan that Holland and the Netherlands are in the same place, and he must do something about it in his role as EEC comissioner.
