I beleive that Q fares UK-USA have long been ineligible for miles.
That said, I have to disagree with some here. AA should not be selling consolidator fares. And, from your emails it isn't clear that AA verified whether or not AA sells these fares.
I don't know how important this is to you, but I would keep banging on AA customer service.
If you haven't done so already, I would call UK central reservations and tell them you want to buy a Q fare basis tix. If they say they don't sell them, and your credit card statement shows you purchased the tix thru AA then you have a case.
If they do sell them, see whether or not the agent mentions that the tix won't earn miles. Put the reservation on hold and ask that your AAdvantage number be added to the reservation. This will give the agent a second opportunity to mention that the fare will not earn miles.
Make multiple reservations in this same manner to test whether or not it is agent error. If you are able to reserve multiple consoldator fares and none of AA's agents (or perhaps <25% of the agents) mention that the tix won't earn miles, then you have a strong case.
Call customer service and make a general complaint. Note all your reservations recently made without any mention that the tix won't earn miles.
