How people can get so worked up over a silly mileage run is beyond me.
You had a plan, due to unforeseen circumstances it did not work out.
It's the airlines' job and commitment to get you from A to B (albeit on your self selected itinerary via many stops).
In the end this is what they did, but now you're missing out on the miles and segments if I understand correctly?
They did offer you some sort of compensation (5000 miles)?
Sorry it did not work out but save yourself all the stress of litigation and next time do two mileage runs with half the number of trips = double the fun and half the risk.
