You are very lucky they let you on as they wouldnt have had to. There is a very good chance they may not have known your inbound flight status considering you were coming in on a different airline. I've had the same problem going from US to UA.
Also, how would IDB even play into a situation like this? The OP misconnected and couldnt get on the flight. Thats not an IDB at all.
Yes, I felt very unlucky to be 2 hours delayed trying to get the last flight to PVR from PHX, and very very lucky they let me on. I was getting over an asthma attack, and was a sweaty, wheezy mess. They took pity on me.^
IDB - agree totally. Not sure how someone above got IDB into the game.
