Are you departing from PHX? In 2007 I took a pair of motor-adjust rear-view mirrors through T4 in my carry-on. No problem. X-ray operator backed it up a couple times, I told them what was in it, they unzipped main compartment to look, that was all.

I did not want to put them in checked bags because 1) the mirrors or adjustments could break if the bag was dropped hard, and 2) they were a discontinued model very hard to replace.
