Loving checking out the Mileage Plus merchandise redemption options - not that I see any worthwhile - but wondering if anyone has ever gotten a remotely decent offer on something in the MP merch section?

Merchandise offered in exchange for miles rarely is worth the cost of purchasing the cost of the merchandise. 400,000 miles will exchange for almost 3 first class rt tickets to Europe, purchased out right would be worth $ 18000-30000 dollars.
My wife and I took a last minute scuba diving trip to Australia during the cold bleak months of winter. It was great to find 2 last minutes tickets in first from SFO to SYD. A flight in Business class would have cost 7000-9000 dollars each. First class was $14,000-$25000each We flew it in first for 160,000. Miles each.
One can buy a 62 in 3D TV set for far less than $18000- $28000. ( 400,000 miles)
But the bottom line is what to you value more: A comfortable seat on an airplane to exotic places or a comfortable chair in you TV room viewing exotic places?
