Seems we agree the location is pretty good - did you explore the neighborhood much? I got some great photos just walking around ...
Always good with different opinions but as you say we both agreed that the location is perfect (The square, Forbidden City, Great Hall of the People, Mao's mausoleum etc) ^
Anyway we did, more or less, only walk around and not once did we take a taxi...The great thing is that the hotel is placed between 2 metro (subway / tube) stations on two different lines so getting a bit further was a breeze
One thing we found amusing was, as Beijing is the great city of all of China all Chinese (it seems) have to visit at least once; there are quite a few rural Chinese who never had seen a westerner before, so we were starred at and pointed fingers at (but in a very innocent and sweet way). We are both from Scandinavia so it added to the excitement
Beijing is very easy to walk around but the distances are enormous...
