I used to request a child meal, but it was the same meal as economy. I quit doing that for my kids and just presented the menu in First/Business to them. They quite enjoyed being able to choose what they wanted to eat and having it presented in front of them. There's usually enough choices in First/Business that they will find something they like. Let them enjoy the same experience as you and you might be surprised by their response.
