You would, until you realise that AA codeshare services still operate on MD11 equipment (China Eastern, Swiss, for example), so the seatmaps are still required. Actually, Sabre holds seatmaps for every single passenger aircraft type, because multiple airlines are hosted in Sabre. For example, you can look up an A340-600 seatmap, or a Concorde seatmap, and AA definitely doesn't operate either of those!

The maps are allocated to each flight by a numeric code, so if an incorrect numeric is assigned, the wrong seat-map will exist.
