There's a website called Slow Travel that had some very good tips about vacation renting. I have just rented in Italy -twice--once in Rome and once in Umbria. Both places were great for a more european experience. I recommend it if you are not the type of person who can only stand luxury hotels. If you are, better to stick to those places, as a european rental is unlikely to have all the bells and whistles.
