Not strange at all - it's a 3-class aircraft operating a 3-class transcon. When it was operated by 3-class 767 equipment, this transcon route was also 3-class.
We all tend to think of 3-class transcon as only JFK-LAX, so perhaps that's why it's a bit strange...
