I can't speak directly to the issue at hand, but I'm an MVP on Alaska and ride Delta frequently as well. I'm able to choose preferred seats (late the night before, or morning of; not sure when that begins), and I do get two free checked bags on DL. I would assume it's a reciprocal arrangement.
