The channel you go through depends on where your flight is arriving from and whether or not you have goods to declare. It has nothing to do with the passenger's nationality. The green channel is for anyone arriving from outside the EU with nothing to declare, the blue channel for persons arriving from within the EU with nothing to declare and the red channel for those with something to delcare irrespective of where they've travelled from.
