I had a similar experience last month at the SGS. It was so slow I gave up on email for a weekend. At other times, however, it was really, really fast.

At present I am staying at the Le Meridien on Surawong and the Speedtest.net results are >8 Mb/s. I frequently download uncompressed music files from clients and speed has never been an issue here during my 15-day stay. The connection will reset once or twice a day, but my simple FTP program resumes the download seamlessly.

It's a lovely property with great SPG recognition.
