Has Check-In Ever Measured Your Checked Bag?

Has anyone ever had their bag measured at check-in and been charged for oversize when it's just a little over?

I've been traveling for years, on AA and UA with a Samsonite 30-inch Upright Pullman whose combined dimensions total 63.5 inches. (I take long trips and my clothes are heavy.)

I can't remember if I misread the rules or if they have changed, but at the time I bought this bag I thought the limit on both AA and UA was 64 linear inches.

Now that it is most clearly 62 linear inches, I keep expecting some check-in person to spot my bag and ask me to pay an oversize bag charge. I know that no one could tell by looking that it's oversized, but it seems it would be easy to train people in these jobs to know which popular bags go over. And since I've been forced to repack a bag for being one pound over, I would expect no flexibility for being 1.5 inches over.

I'm in the market for new luggage anyway, but in most brands there is still at 30-incher that exceeds the 62-inch rule, but the next smaller sizes often have 40-percent less capacity.
