I can't speak to what the restrictions are in Canada, but I'd side with most posters to say I wouldn't expect you to have a problem. I've done this many, many times in the US and from other countries and never had a problem. For full disclosure, though, I work in the beer industry so YMMV.
For shipping it, I'd strongly recommend leaving the bottles in the original case as you receive it from the brewer. After all, beer cases by definition are designed to protect the beer for shipping and distribution! I always put the original case in a larger box filled with "soft stuff" as okazon69 describes, seal it, and label it as fragile. It gives it a little extra protection with the added benefit of not having a few bottles pilfered by beer-loving baggage handlers.
