That is correct. You can take CZ directly to CAN from LAX. CZ also codeshares and partners with DL, so you can put all of your miles into a DL account. I've only flown CZ for intra-China flights, so cannot comment on the service for international flights.

OTOH, if you are a member of the Star alliance, you can choose to fly OZ with a connection in ICN. Alternatively, you may have to go through ICN and HKG depending on the day of travel. OZ is a very good airline and has quite a good C class product. Last time I used them they served the 1994 Ch. Gruaud Larose (2eme Cru).
