Your PLT status doesnt mean anything at all in this case, however, there have been cases of people using expired vouchers. AA will charge a 100$ per year of expiration, i.e. a 500$ voucher that expired two years ago will still be worth 300$.

They may have changed this but that is what people ahve reported in the past.
