BTW one AA CSR said that there was 'N' inventory for SFO-LAX-IAD but that it was a companion fare. I couldn't find that fare published anywhere either. But in that instance, Galileo was correct. 'N' inventory was available but AA.com, Travelocity and Expedia don't list the fare.</font>
Inventory is shown because certain carriers now show 26 classes of service ('inventories') for all flights. This doesn't necessarily mean that a fare is available in all classes of service. For example, you may see 'D' inventory available on a flight on the day prior to departure, but if the 'D' class fare is a 3-day advance purchase business class fare, when you book the D class and try to price the itinerary, it wont price. Why? Because the fare is no longer available. Simple as that.
