I know this is sacrilege, but when I went in December, I flew DL metal to SYD, and then took Emirates from SYD-AKL on the A380. I went first class on Emirates for only $900, and got to take a shower at FL370

This is the end segment on the A380 from DXB thru SYD and they have killer fares. Again no skymiles but worth the experience
