Credit Card must be present at checkin - purchased for another person

I had some e-certs I wasn't going to use. My friends are getting married and so I said I would pay for their flights. I used my credit card to pay for the fees etc... The booking confirmation page said my credit card had to be present to check-in. Um, I am not flying with them.

So I called and they said "its a mistake, you are fine"

Am I really fine? At what point will I know if this all worked?

BTW, I don't trust the people on the phone because they never have to deal with you again and thus they don't always tell the truth.
