EK baggage services are quite horrendous. I've had 4 bags misplaced in the last year and even though all were eventually found, in 2 cases that was due to absolutely no doing of EK.
a) Traveling to Glasgow, bag left behind in Dubai. PIR in Glasgow requested bag to be delivered to my address in London. No sign of it in London the next day. It had been routed from Dubai to Gatwick via Glasgow evidently. BMI at Glasgow arranged for it to be forwarded to EK at Gatwick but EK Gatwick swore it was not received. Fortunately I have a Gatwick airside pass so I went poking around and sure enough the bag was quietly sitting by the British Airways desks with the wrong name and contact details on the Emirates delivery label. The WorldTracer file showed the bag still sitting in Glasgow for 3 months!!!
b) Traveling to Accra, bag left behind in Mumbai. I had been advised during DXB transit that my bag had not been loaded in BOM, so I was not expecting it. However it appears that the agent in Dubai who advised me of the baggage not being loaded also deleted my tag from the system. So Emirates insists that I never checked in any bags even though I had baggage tags showing that I did. Aviance in Accra took a manual AHL but since it was not in WorldTracer it didn't match up with Dubai's OHD file. I spent 25 days trying to get to the bottom of things until I finally got a friend at EK to dig up the OHD details. I plugged those into WorldTracer and found that the bag had been forwarded to EK Accra and had been sitting in the corner of their office for 20 days WITH MY ORIGINAL TAGS (that they claimed didn't exist) and my Skywards Gold tags on. This from the same folks that swore blindly that I had never checked any bags to begin with.
I'm pretty certain that if I didn't have the industry resources that I do and had to rely on EK like everyone else, I'd have been shopping for new luggage.
My complaint from January about the Glasgow bag has still not been responded to - they claim to have been experiencing heavy volumes of mail every time I send a reminder. And not one single call or email from Emirates during either of those incidents (nor the other two which were resolved easily by the bag showing up on the next day's flight).
