No doubt, but you certainly don't want the US to be the standard-bearer in airport security...
I've actually heard a couple security-types asking people for shoes off at LGW, but as they weren't directed at anyone in particular no one really listened. And the UK may not have 'shoes off' but it does have 'belts off', at least some of the time.
