They did not want to pay $50-100 more for a hot meal, so those are gone, as well.
Fact is, people book cheapest because they are either frugal (and care only about getting from Point A to Point B) or they are restricted by corporate from purchasing any higher fares.
This reduces the available revenue stream which reduces service. And if an airline tries to "buck the trend" and keep service high (like Midwest, for example), they will just bleed that much more as costs grossly exceed revenues and eventually C11 (and maybe C7).

As essentially a leisure Traveler, I have consistently paid more to fly on AA for the MRTC and service than I would have on HP or WN. I will continue to do so as often as I can, since I do like the professionalism of the AA Flight Crews. (And earning Miles of course)
I am sorry to see AA trying to "Dumb Down" to WN level. As a discerning Consumer, I realize that there should be a difference in Quality and that difference does have a price.
