I did YYZ-YYC-YEG-YVR-SFO a few months ago (you might want to look at that route too). for $264.27. One important thing you need to keep in mind while booking multi-segment on ac.com is that all your segments need to be in the same fare bucket -- if any of them are different, then the pricing will start quoting per-segment fares.
When you choose your fares, hover your mouse over the preview seat availability link. At the bottom of your browser status bar, you'll see the fare bucket that the segment books in. Make sure the fare bucket is the same for all segments.
I think ac.com has some hidden evil algorithm that purposely returns one segment with a different fare bucket (or the same fare bucket on a connection you can't make [i.e. cnx flight leaves before you arrive]).
Your best bet is to do what I did. Give up and use expedia.ca instead.
[maybe this is a suggestion we should put in the suggestion box -- add a feature to ac.com for us "advanced" users to specify which fare buckets we want the search results to return .... continental.com does it]
