Aer Lingus, seat allocation and trim weighting

Did my first EI flight DUB-LHR in a while on Thursday and observed a very-Ryanairish behaviour - the first 8 rows of the A321 were blocked off due to 'trim weighting.' The result was that the rest of the rows were packed.

Is this a new EI policy, a once-ff due to cargo weight issue or just more evidence of EI still being a low-service airline?
