" - the agent hands Joe a United boarding pass"- hmmm, doesn't look like the old UA ones. Why?
" - boarding begins and Joe goes to the door of the gate and notices that the airplane that says United on the side" looks like the old Continental planes used to. So they just took Continental and slapped the UA name over it.
And so on. At least, that's the anecdotal evidence I have from a few people around me when looking at the merger announcement website. "Wait, what's going on with CO? Why are they changing their name?" Just a name indeed. Unless they do some more work to reflect the UA heritage (changing the name font is but a baby step), people will remember the United name but not much more.
