I have a season subscription to a local theatre. I get a discount by buying the whole series before the series starts by a certain date. I do not have to commit who I am taking with me. I could take my husband, my daughter or a friend, or give both tickets away for someone else to use. In addition, I can change the dates without penalty. However, if I forget and miss the show, instead of being punitive, the theatre lets me pay a small fee $5 per ticket, and go stand-by on the date of another performance. This way they are letting me have what would have been a perishable commodity - an unsold seat, but if they can make money by selling it to someone else they will do that first. It's why I have been a subscriber for over 25 years. they have my loyalty.
